Over 70 delegates turned up for a recent meeting of the Landlords' Forum in Yeovil.

The event was held at a new venue, the Yeovil Rugby Club on Dorchester Road and was opened by Local MP David Laws.

Mr Laws gave a review of economic developments since the Government Coalition was formed, together with an overview of upcoming legislation and the Government's current thinking on Housing and Welfare Reform issues. The Forum was then opened up for questions from the delegates. Topics of interest to the audience were:-

• Specialist advice regarding the eviction of tenants - serving the correct notices, court procedures etc.

• Introduction of a new free scheme for educating and accrediting tenants.

• Introduction of a scheme where landlords can lease their properties to a Housing Association, which guarantees a monthly rent to the landlord.

The feedback from delegates was very positive and another event is being planned for early next year.

Any landlord interested in attending a future event should e-mail housing.options@southsomerset or ring the Housing Options Team on 01935 462462.

Councillor Ric Pallister, Portfolio Holder for Housing said: "The availability of a decent home is critical to every individual's wellbeing and health. Accessing the housing market is a real challenge and many will rely on rented accommodation, at the very least, for many years to come.

"Our Private Sector Landlords are critical to meeting that need and I am delighted that so many attend these events and want to work with the Council in providing the good quality homes that are so urgently needed."
