I lived with my parents and sister and three brothers in Yeovil. I was born in 1964. We lived in Coronation Avenue. I have one brother who still lives there as does my son, Daniel. My mother ( Father died this year), lives in Martock with another brother, (my sister died in 1985). My other brother lives in Scotland and I live in Leeds, although I have also lived in Plymouth, Reading and Cardiff. But no matter where I lived I have always had a soft spot for Yeovil. It is the Town that has so many happy memories. My School days at Westfield Infants, Westfield Junior then moved to Parcroft what use to be Summerleaze, then to Westfield Comp, part of which use to be the Girls High School. My brothers and I and my friends use to play in Johnson Park, where years before Dad use to practise his running. My mum was born in Yeovil in a little cottage on Ilchester Road, still there today, Dad came to Yeovil during the war to escape the blitz on London.
It is a real shame that the Chappell familiy sold Denners to Beales. Denners was something special, it was unique. But I and others have noticed how Beales appear to not invest much money into the store and looks like it is being allowed to run down. Who knows maybe the Chappell family will buy it back. Also I would like to see some of the old buildings that have sadly been lost, to be rebuilt, the Town Hall on the high street, only seen pictures of it as it burnt down in 1935, the Medical Hall in the Borough, where Burger King is, a regency style building bombed in 1940/41 but sadly never rebuilt, and of course the old George building in Middle street. Would be good too to pave over the High Street and Princes Street.
