I remember the Town had 3 cinema's, the central, in Church st, demolished in the 1980's, the Odeon in Court Ash, I think this opened in 1937 and now a bed centre. I think Court Ash House use to stand there. I think I read that somewhere. The Central I think was built in 1931 though not sure, it was a lovely looking building from the outside. The other cinema was the Gaumont on Starrs Lane, until recently a bingo hall. That was a nice cinema, I think that one opened in the 1930's, on the site of an older cinema/ Hall. I use to go to the Odeon for the Saturday Morning picture show. Great fun, lots of kids and lots of noise. Saw 101 dalmations at the Gourmont. and next to the Central there use to be a sweet shop.
