Trying to find out what happened - as far as I can tell this all happened fairly abruptly. There were gigs booked in up to the end of June at least. Very sad for live music fans in Yeovil, the Orange Box had quite a passionate and loyal following - Yeovil needs these alternative-type ventures to mix it up a bit.
Yeah, and they've had some decent bands there too. I used to like the Ski-Lodge for gigs, and when that went under the Orange Box seemed to be an adequate replacement. Westlands is a little too big - seems a shame - as the live music scene in Yeovil looks like it has taken a sudden turn for the worse.
Gutted to hear about the Orange Box ceasing to exist. It was a breath of fresh air in this town, now I guess the Quicksilver Mail is the only place to watch gritty live music, and that's too far out of town for most of us. It's a shame the Ski Lodge can't re-open, and you're right; Westlands is too big and well-oiled to be a decent venue with true roots in live indie music. Maybe there's a way we (as fans) can get the place open again?

Fair point, getting the Box back up and running between us would be a huge commitment, god knows I don't have the time or money :( But you never know, just showing our support for the place could get the owners to change their mind, or encourage up-and-coming people in the music biz to see its potential.

According to the Westrern Gazette Ian Rogers, managing director of the Orange Box, decided to close the venue due to poor health. Last year he was rushed to hospital with renal failure and has been advised to change his stressful lifestyle. Fair play to him though - he said he didn't want to see a decent venue slowly drop its standards and just fizzle out. Looks like it really is RIP Orange Box...
