Yeovil College student Terri Trowbridge has been selected for the England Colleges' Ladies Football team.

Former Buckler's Mead School student Terri already plays for Yeovil Town Football Club's Ladies team, and has now been selected for the national squad after a three stage selection.

A delighted Terri (19) of Yeovil said: "They weren't going to tell us when they did, but in the end they emailed us early to say who was on the team. When I got the email telling me that I'd been chosen, I felt really happy.

"It's my last year at College, but I didn't get in the team last year or in my first year, so I'm really pleased to have been chosen at last. Everyone at home's really chuffed and proud, so that's pretty good!

"I'm really grateful to my coaches, Laura my 'taxi' and, of course, my mum and dad."

Yeovil College is renowned for its support and development of top sports persons through its prestigious Academy system. Terri's coach at Yeovil College Andy Mitchell commented: "Not everyone in the College has the same ability as Terri.

"She does really well working with her team, encouraging other players and helping out in more practical ways, organising everyone and taking warm ups. She's been a tremendous help and absolutely key, on and off the pitch, taking her role as captain very seriously.

"Her game has continued to improve over her time at Yeovil College and she's played extremely well this year. Without a doubt, she's the best player in the South West and incredibly adaptable. We're all really proud of her, she deserves her place on the England Colleges' team."

Chris Burton, Faculty Director for Sport, Hair, Beauty and Complementary Therapies added: "Terri has represented the college football team and participated in our Academy programme for the last three years.

"She has managed her time extremely well, balancing her BTEC sports courses and leadership programmes alongside her commitment to College sport and the Yeovil Town Football Club's ladies' team.

"Terri deserves this success and she is proof that a well organised and disciplined student can achieve both in the classroom and on the sports field. She is now looking forward to playing in the national representative team against other national squads.

"This is an outstanding achievement given the competition for places, particularly from players who are training in the academies linked to premiership football clubs."
