Terry Skiverton admitted that dropping from manager to assistant 'stung a little bit' at first, but he says he's fully committed to work alongside new boss Gary Johnson
Gary Johnson was confirmed as the new Glovers boss at a Huish Park press conference this afternoon, and Skiverton will stay at the club as Johnson's assistant.
Skiverton, who took over as manager in 2009 after a playing career that included more than 300 appearances for the club, admitted that losing his managerial position was tough to accept.
But he said his love for the Glovers, combined with the chance to work with Johnson again, was the key reason behind his decision to stay.
"I had a lot of time to deliberate," said Skiverton, who was captain of Yeovil Town during Johnson's successful years in charge.
"When I spoke to the chairman and he mentioned it was Gary, I got straight on the phone to him and we had a lengthy chat.
"It just seemed like a natural fit. I'm not going to lie - when I first spoke to the chairman it stung a little bit.
"It could have been easy for me to walk away and head for pastures new, but there's just something about this football club.
"I've been here for 12 years and for some reason I just can't get away. I love the club."
Skiverton signed as a player for Yeovil from Welling in 1999, and became a central part of the club's rise through the leagues.
He became player-manager in 2009, and announced his retirement from playing in May 2010 after 382 appearances and 42 goals in all competitions.
"The chairman and board think this is the best way to move forward. I agree with them," added Skiverton.
"I will do everything within my power, along with the gaffer now, to make sure that this club moves in the right direction.
"I am privileged to have been here for this amount of years and, working under Gary, I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and making sure this club is fulfilling its potential."
New boss Johnson confirmed that all members of the Glovers coaching team, including Nathan Jones and Darren Way, will have the opportunity to stay at the club.
Johnson said: "They certainly have the opportunity to remain in post. They are all great stalwarts of the club.
"It's a perfect scenario. All four of us love the club and we all helped the club get where it is now. We'd like to take it further."

ReportTotal respect for Terry Skiverton here. How many football managers do you know who would step down from manager to assistant if it means helping the club out? Most people in football only think about their own ego. Skiverton has shown what a class act he is.
