Fifteen Dorset County Council staff members have aised £1,170 for Yeovil District Hospital by completing a ten mile sponsored walk.

The team of colleagues walked from Bowleaze Cove to the Sailing academy on Portland after a day's work with the Horizon service last Friday.

They chose to donate their funds to Yeovil Hospital's breast cancer service as one of their team, Kim Martin, was diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer at Yeovil Hospital last year.

After breast cancer patients complete their treatments, they are invited to a 'Time for You day' organised by Breast Care Specialists at Yeovil Hospital.

They are treated to lunch and treatments such as facials, massages and make-up sessions.

Kim felt that the care and support she received went above and beyond her expectations.

She said: "All the breast cancer nurses at Yeovil District Hospital were fantastic and the day at St Margaret's Hospice was brilliant providing me with the opportunity to meet others who had been through the same experiences.

"I decided to spend the money we raised on funding this day for others who have had breast cancer as it is paid for by charitable contributions to Yeovil District Hospital's breast care trust fund."

A spokesperson for Yeovil District Hospital said: "We are delighted and very grateful for the funds raised by the Horizon team."
