Good news for the youngsters of Martock as a brand new floodlit Multi Use Games Area was officially opened on Sunday 12 February.

The exciting new facility has been delivered by Martock Parish Council, with funding and technical support from SSDC.

Mark Evans from Martock Youth Centre says that the facility has already been well received, commenting: "The feedback we have had from young people in Martock is that they are truly delighted to have the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

"We have some very exciting plans in place to make the maximum use of this wonderful facility not just for the younger members of our community but for all ages.

"The MUGA, with floodlights glowing and the sound of laughter filling the air, really is something to witness."

Roger Powell, Chairman of Martock Parish Council added: "This is a project which we have been working on with our young people for some time and the Parish Council is pleased to see it at last come to fruition.

"We could not have done this without those who have made key funding contributions; South Somerset District Council, Yarlington Housing Group and the Well Being of Yeovil Community Association, to whom we offer our grateful thanks."

The floodlights ensure that the games area is used all year round and compliment the existing facilities. The project has also delivered additional new floodlighting to increase the use of the Recreation Ground in the winter months, which will benefit many local football teams and all users of the popular skate park.
