Police are appealing for information following a burglary in the Birchfield Park area of Yeovil.

Officers are urging antique shops, pawnbrokers, car boot sellers and second hand shops to be vigilante after naval medals were among the items stolen.

The distinctive medals belonged to the victim's late husband. They recognise long service and good conduct and have the name Alan G Newham engraved around the edge. Police said the medals have huge sentimental value to the owner.

Jewellery and a 40 inch television were also stolen.

Anyone with information should contact Yeovil CID on the force number 101 or on-line at www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact/crime_reporting.
