Kerry Sturmey, from Mama Bear's Day Nursery and Pre-School has been crowned Regional Manager of the Year at the fifth annual Nursery World Awards.
Kerry, who oversees Mama Bear's nurseries in Taunton, Plymouth, Torbay and Yeovil, was praised for her enthusiasm, expertise and impressive Ofsted results.
Liz Roberts, editor of Nursery World said: "Ideas and enthusiasm abound for Kerry, who was promoted to regional general manager of Mama Bear's in June last year, and has since made a huge impact.
"Kerry not only supports existing nurseries in the chain, she has led staff teams through acquisition, ensuring staff morale remains high and the children receive the highest quality care. Five of her nurseries have recently been awarded outstanding by Ofsted.
"Her expertise has been recognised externally and she acted as an advisor on a new Child Development and Education degree."
Kerry joined the family-run Mama Bear's three years ago when its Taunton nursery was acquired, and has worked her way from Nursery Manager to her current role, which requires her to support the seven nurseries under her care and ensure all parents, staff and children are happy.
Kerry said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be given this award and can't believe I was picked amongst some of the other candidates. Childcare is my passion and there's nothing I love more than creating a welcoming, fun, educational and safe environment which a child loves and a parent feels comfortable leaving their pride and joy in!
"I work really hard to ensure all staff members are supported by me as much as possible and we're always looking for ways to improve what we do. This award means a lot to me and the whole Mama Bear's family."
Mama Bear's Day Nursery is a family-run business founded in 2002. The Day Nurseries are aimed at providing children with their first vital level of education to give them a head-start when they start at primary school.
Mama Bear's director Tony Driffield said: "We are immensely proud of Kerry and so glad all her hard work and dedication has been recognised in this way. Kerry is so committed to providing outstanding childcare and is extremely passionate about what she does.
"The children and staff always love to see Kerry. She understands children's needs and recognises them all as little people with their own voices and ambitions.
"Her hands-on approach makes her easily approachable for even our newest team members. She will be the first to congratulate someone when they show outstanding practice and is always available to provide sound advice and guidance on professional matters when required. Congratulations Kerry, an award well deserved!"
