Housing Association helps residents into employment

Unemployment has declined over the past year and more people have secured work, however the number of 16 – 24 year olds that find they are unemployed and out of work has risen.
One housing association has taken positive steps to help their residents secure employment and access training and volunteering opportunities by appointing an in-house Employment Co-ordinator.
Chris Newman has just started in this new role at Yarlington Housing Group and will be working with residents providing one to one support, career and educational advice. In addition Chris will maintain and develop partner relations with businesses, charities, public sector organisations and local service providers helping to open up new and exciting opportunities for residents.
Chris brings with him a wealth of experience from previous roles in the private, public and voluntary sectors where he has mentored individuals, delivered training courses and managed charities. Chris said 'I'm motivated by being able to help people move forward and achieve their ambitions and aspirations so this role is ideal for me. I'm looking forward to working with Yarlington's residents.'
Ken Comber, Head of Communities at Yarlington concluded 'This is a new and exciting role within the organisation which has arisen as a result of our residents wanting advice and support in accessing employment, training and volunteering opportunities.'
