A man tricked an elderly woman into letting him into her home last Saturday and stole her handbag.
The man, described as being in his late teens, claimed he was being chased and had jumped into the lady's garden to escape at around 5pm on September 22.
She let him walk through her house on Ilchester Road but later found that her handbag had been stolen from the kitchen.
Yeovil Police are asking for help tracing the man. He is described as white, with short mousy coloured straight hair, around 5ft 4 inches tall and of athletic build. He was wearing brown trousers and a light coloured top that day and it is believed that he was in his late teens.
He was last seen walking along Ilchester Road towards the Pickety Witch pub.
Anyone who recognises his description is asked to contact Yeovil Police on 101.
Officers are advising people, particularly the elderly, not to open their doors to uninvited callers or to allow strangers into their home.
