A year's preparation will come to a head at Ham Hill Country Park next week when a free festival of wildlife, crafts, and archaeology returns to the Iron Age hill fort.

The event takes place on Saturday 3 September from 11am to 4pm, and visitors will be able to travel back in time to see an Iron Age camp of actors in full costume, as well as exploring authentic hut dwellings and getting involved with willow weaving.

Free activities also include woodturning, face painting, bird box making, and the Rattlebox Theatre will be performing for the crowds.

Katy Menday, Countryside Manager at SSDC said: "This year's experience day should be as exciting as ever, with performance, plenty of history-related activities for all ages, lots of hands-on crafts to take part in and local produce and market stalls.

"It is always a really diverse and bustling day and it is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the heritage of the country park."

Cllr Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture added: "Ham Hill has an incredibly rich history and we like to educate people, open up the countryside sites and make the best out of them.

"In previous years we have had thousands of people joining our rangers to enjoy the activities."

All activities will be held on the grassy barbeque area outside the Ham Hill Centre rangers' hut.

Ham Hill Archaeology, the current archaeological dig, will also be hosting a public open day and visitors will be able to visit the dig and talk to archaeologists about the finds so far. Click here for more information.
