New exclusive luxury homes being built within the former walled garden of Sherborne House, Dorset are selling fast as work continues on the painstaking restoration of the grand 18th century house.
Thirteen different house types have been designed by Redcliffe Homes on the 44-home development to create a new community within walking distance of Sherborne's town centre with six already sold while building work continues.
Lorraine Kendrick, Sales and Marketing Manager for Redcliffe Homes said: "The first homes are now occupied and a number of others are close to completion. There is a lot of interest especially as people can now see the quality of the houses being created which fit seamlessly into the local area.
"Within the original listed walled garden of Sherborne House we have created Portman Place, which is almost complete and has a series of Bay Trees lining the street. Nearby, building work is also well underway creating Portland Square.
"All visitors to our show home are welcome, where they can see the high specifications that our homes include.
"Once completed Sherborne House Gardens will be one of the finest addresses in the town. Close to the shopping facilities in and around Cheap Street it is still tucked away from the hustle and bustle and offers plenty of privacy for the residents."
Meanwhile experts from English Heritage are working with Redcliffe Homes on Sherborne House completing a comprehensive and sensitive restoration.
An Art Café is also being created as a new facility for the town, alongside an art gallery within part of the original house. It is hoped that it will be used as the archive of the work of renowned sculptor and printmaker Dame Elizabeth Frink, who sadly died in Blandford Forum 10 years ago.
The magnificent Thornhill Mural, which adorns the hallway of Sherborne House is being preserved and the plan is for it to be opened up for public viewing once work is completed on the house.
Said Lorraine: "The whole project is aimed at making the house an asset for the town. The new homes are helping to finance the restoration so that this magnificent building, which has a major place in Sherborne's history, can be brought into use again.
"Offices will provide workplaces on the upper floors, the homes will bring people and prosperity to the town centre and the café and art gallery will provide a new leisure activity for the town."
The remaining new homes for sale have three and four bedrooms and are exclusively and individually designed to a high specification with prices ranging from £425,000 to £499,950.
The showhome home is open Thursday to Monday 10 am to 5pm and details of the homes can be obtained by calling 01935 813052.
