2013 gets off to an exciting start in Yeovil where young sports fans can test their footballing skills both on and off their Xbox at a unique one-day tournament which is being organised at Preston Sports Centre. www.1610.org.uk (Wednesday 2 January 11-3pm).
More than fifty young players have already signed up to the special Xbox football tournament at the centre where a big screen is being set up in the sports hall for players to test their gaming skills. The players will take part in 8-minute football games on screen and then they can leave the virtual football world behind and take on their friends in a real game of football at the centre. As well as football, the tournament players will also have the chance to take part in a number of sports activities such as badminton and table tennis.
The Manager of Preston Sports Centre, Matt Harras says that the Xbox tournament is one way of introducing young people to a variety of different sports to get fit and active for 2013: " Many children and teenagers will have spent a large part of Christmas playing on their Xbox so we thought we would tap into the popularity of Xbox by organising a tournament at the centre but also give players the opportunity to try out other sports activities. It's a great way to use up some energy and keep children entertained over the holidays, the idea has already caught on with lots of players signing up."
Players must be between 11- 16 years of age to play and the cost is £3 per team.
