Yeovil and its surrounding areas could be subject to further flooding issues later this week.

The Met Office is forecasting another spell of persistent and heavy rain to sweep across Somerset on Thursday and Friday.

Southern areas are expected to bear the brunt of the heavy rain.

A severe weather warning, covering Yeovil, has been issued by the Met Office. It is currently in place from midday on Thursday until 5pm on Friday.

Forecasters are predicting up to 30mm of rainfall in many areas during the 29-hour period, but warned as much as 50mm could fall on higher ground.

"Some improvement seems likely later on Friday, but still with localised heavy showers," said the Met Office in issuing its yellow warning.

"The public should be aware that this may cause some localised issues with flooding."
