Taking the decision to go to university is a tough one at the best of times, more so in these days of massive fees, fewer jobs and global financial meltdown. (Don't worry, this gets cheerier).

Youngsters from our area who do decide to take the plunge will often find themselves at a university here in the south west such as Bath Spa, Bristol UWE or Bournemouth. But how many consider the higher education options available right here in Yeovil?

Now, in an effort to raise its profile amongst local people, the University Centre Yeovil (UCY) will hold its first information event of 2011/12 on Friday 7 October 2011 from 2pm and 4pm.

The UCY is a partnership between Bournemouth University, the University of the West of England (UWE), the University of Gloucestershire and Yeovil College.

It is dedicated to the provision of Higher Education to students in Somerset and Dorset and offers a range of full and part-time university-level and professional courses, including Foundation and Honours degrees.

Access and Breakthrough courses are also available for those wishing to build knowledge and confidence before embarking on a HE course. The UCY also continues to expand the number of full Honours and top up degrees provided at the Centre.

In 2012 and for the first time, the UCY is offering BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons) Creative Practices (Media or Fine Arts pathways) top up qualifications. Both courses are validated by UWE.

Staff will be available on 7 October 2011 to provide more information and guidance on all the courses in the new UCY prospectus, as well as advice about finance, accommodation and other aspects of student life.

If you've been thinking about furthering your education - whether as a new or mature student - this could be your chance to kick-start a new phase in your life...
