Do you and your family enjoy getting close to nature, handling animals and insects and generally mucking in with all things countryside?

The first cygnets for nine years recently hatched at Chard Reservoir.
If so then why not be one of the hundreds expected at Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve next weekend, when the Chard Countryside Day returns with more activities than ever before.
Visitors will have the chance to make their own bird boxes, try their hand at willow weaving, get creative with clay modelling and have their face painted.
The free day of wildlife and green-themed activities will also invite people to go on the hunt for native bugs with a ranger in the site's extensive meadows.
Braver visitors can discover what a giant centipede or a tarantula looks like in real life in the Eduzoo tent.
The Countryside Day takes place on Saturday 30 July from 11am to 4pm.
Katy Menday, Countryside Manager at SSDC explains: "The countryside day is a fantastic and wonderful mixture of creativity, discovery and fun. The rangers love showing children what strange bugs exist in the wild meadows and there really are activities for the whole family."
Cllr Sylvia Seal added: "This is part of our packed programme of countryside events over the summer holidays which, I hope, will give families some excellent free entertainment whilst also giving people the chance to access and learn more about our countryside sites."
Free parking is available at the Oaklands avenue car park and there are refreshments and toilets on site.
