Businesses in South Somerset are being urged to complete a survey looking into the benefits of A303 / A 358 /A30 road improvements.

SSDC is supporting Somerset County Council's Corridor Improvement package study by encouraging all local businesses to fill in an online survey describing how improvements to the road corridor may improve business prospects.

The aims of the project are to develop a strong evidence base showing how improvements will benefit the local and South West regional economy.

Specific economic benefits from A303/A358 improvements for Somerset potentially include:

* Making Somerset (and neighbouring areas) more accessible for tourists (particularly opportunities to further Somerset 's strengths as a short break destination from London and the South East).

* Strengthening Somerset's inward investment attractiveness by reducing journey times to markets.

* Helping to strengthen and develop local supply chains – including benefits for the aerospace and advanced engineering sectors clustered around Yeovil and Agusta Westland.

An on-line Survey, typically taking around ten minutes to complete is currently being run and it will be open until Friday 20th July.

The survey seeks to understand potential job impacts (including jobs safeguarded), effects on visitor spending and changes in business to business activity; all potential spin-off impacts of the scheme.

Cllr Jo Roundell Greene, portfolio holder for Economy said: "It is vital that businesses take time to fill in the survey which will be used as evidence to government in the future.

"The A303/ A30, and A358 run the length and breadth of South Somerset, supporting a wide corridor of economic activity in the market towns in South Somerset and it is crucial to realising our tourism and business potential.

"We all are aware that the incomplete dualling means wide variations in travel times at key peaks as bottlenecks occur. This has an economic cost and is a barrier to investment."

Are you a business owner here in Yeovil / the South West? What improvements would you like to see to the A303 / A 358 /A30?
